Sakurai Shogi School
Shogi lessons in person and over the internet, matched to where you are now and where you want to go.
ABOUT THE SCHOOL
What we do
Sakurai Shogi School (櫻井将棋塾) gives shogi lessons in classrooms in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo and over the internet. Lessons are matched to each student's own goal, for players from beginners to those aiming at national tournaments or the Shoreikai (the professional training league).
Students can study with Shoreikai members, strong amateurs and professional shogi players. At the Iidabashi classroom in Tokyo, lessons are given by the head of the school or by a professional shogi player.
Your first lesson over the internet can be a trial lesson.
Ways to learn
Individual lessons over the internet
Teaching matched to each student, from beginners to players who have already joined the Shoreikai.
Study group over the internet
A theme is set each week — replaying game records, "find the next move" problems and more — and participants ask questions and share their views.
League over the internet
Six players per league play each other once a month (round robin), 15 minutes plus 30 seconds per move.
